These tours are a rare opportunity for a more immersive, behind the scenes, individually tailored experience, hosted privately with Frank or Caroline, who co-own the smoke house, share a commitment to exceptional quality, and have developed the business together over the last 20 years.

 You will be able to experience first-hand the atmosphere and activities of a rare, living Irish culinary tradition, and gain an appreciation of the deceptively simple skill of preserving and flavouring food while understanding the challenges and pressures of modern food production and distribution.

 You will also gain an insight to the life’s work of one of Ireland’s most renowned food protagonists and, you’ll be able to savour the most delicious smoked salmon and seafood you will probably ever have tried.

 These tours are made especially for the culturally curious traveller who has a particular interest in local food, adventurous cooks intrigued by smoking, and smoked food and seafood lovers who enjoy new and immersive eating experiences.

 We offer two options for tasting, depending on your schedule. 

APPETISER TOUR

Our Appetiser Tour is a comprehensive introduction to the smoke house for those on a flying visit who maybe have plans to dine elsewhere. Indulge in a shared platter of delicious classic canapés that won’t spoil your appetite, but which will ensure that you’ve had the opportunity to taste our food in situ. (Allow min 1 hour)

EPICUREAN TOUR 

Come with a good appetite and ample time for an Epicurean Tour, which includes a delicious meal, convivial surroundings and lively discussion. You will be offered a classic, seasonal Tasting Room menu of 3-4 courses, and you can take as much time as your schedule allows. Enjoy a leisurely, luxurious brunch, lunch or afternoon tea. (Allow a min 2 hours)

Please note that because we are a working smoke house, we are unable to offer impromptu or unscheduled tours, and would ask that you make contact with the smokehouse via email for a private tour with Frank Hederman or Caroline Workman.

PRIVATE TOUR GROUP TERMS & CONDITIONS

Season 2024

Our 2024 season runs from March 15^th to October 31st.

We cannot take bookings in November, December, January, or February.

Booking

Tour places for each person attending must be pre-booked in writing by email privatetours@frankhederman.com.

A booking is only confirmed when you have received approval and confirmation from the Belvelly Smoke House management team.

Belvelly Smoke House reserves the right under unavoidable circumstance to cancel group bookings at any time. If Belvelly Smoke House has to cancel, the tour fee charged will be reimbursed in full.

Children

Please mind your children when they are on our premises. This is a working smokehouse and yard.

Payment

 Full payment must be made at the time of booking to secure your date.

 Minimum tour charges (for two people) will apply. However, solo travellers will be

accommodated with produce (to the value of the second person’s fee), which can be shipped at a preferred date or collected at the time of your visit.

(Shipping charges at cost are not included in this rate.)

Unscheduled Tours

Due to the preparation involved for private tours, we are unable to accommodate impromptu or unscheduled visits. Please contact the smokehouse via email for a private tour with Frank Hederman or Caroline Workman privatetours@frankhederman.com

Cancellation Policy

 Private tours of two people cancelled by you more than two full weeks in advance will be reimbursed, but will incur an administration fee of €60. Private tours of four people or more cancelled more than two full weeks in advance will incur a discretionary administrative charge of 15%.

All tours cancelled buy you within two weeks of taking place, but with more than 72 hours’ notice, will incur a 50% cancellation fee.

Tours cancelled by you in under a 72-hour notice period will not be refunded.

Belvelly Smoke House reserves the right under unavoidable circumstance to cancel group bookings at any time. If Belvelly Smoke House has to cancel, the tour fee charged will be reimbursed in full.

Running Late

If you are running late, please advise us by email privatetours@frankhederman.com, and by phone 00353 (0) 21 4811089. We will do our best to accommodate you.

Parking

 The smoke house is located on a relatively small site and has limited space for parking and turning. The maximum size of vehicle that we can accommodate is a 16-seater Sprinter or equivalent.

 Belvelly Smoke House is not responsible for theft from or damage to your car while on our premises.

Health & Safety

Due to food safety legislation, you will be required to complete a visitor health information questionnaire, to wear PPE (coat and a hat) and wash hands before the tour in order to have access to our processing rooms. We would ask you to allow 5-10 minutes for this, especially if the group is maximum size.

Please note this is a working smoke house and yard: you must mind yourself and your children when on our premises.
